HOW TO CARE FOR ALPAKINO COVERS AND PILLOWS?
For ALPAKINO quilts and pillows to serve us for many years, proper care is necessary. Generally speaking, the care of each bedding depends largely on the type of filling, which is why different activities are required for down or synthetic fibers than for alpaca wool. However, there is the most important rule that should be followed regardless of the type of filling: to extend the durability of the duvet, follow the symbols on the product label. So let's analyze the label of each ALPAKINO wool bedding.
Why can't you wash alpaca wool duvets and pillows?
The most important rule regarding the care of alpaca wool bedroom products is that they must not be washed - neither by hand nor automatically. Washing an alpaca wool duvet and pillow in a washing machine is not recommended, even using a wool program, because during mechanical rotation or spinning, there is a risk of shifting and damaging the fiber inside the duvet, which in turn may result in felting of the filling. Damage to alpaca fiber can occur regardless of the temperature of the water. However, do not panic, if it is slightly dirty, spot cleaning with cold water and then drying flat is allowed.
How can you clean alpaca wool products?
So how should you clean alpaca wool products? The safest form is dry cleaning. Therefore, it is worth taking your bedding to a professional laundry that provides such services. Remember to inform the people working there that these are products made of alpaca wool, which should be handled very carefully, as it is influenced by both mechanical impact, as well as the amount of water used for cleaning and the temperature.
The following symbols inform us not to bleach, mechanically dry or iron products made of alpaca wool. However, also in this case, in the case of delicate dirt, it is permissible to use an iron to dry it faster, but necessarily without using steam.
Entrust the care of products made of alpaca wool to professionals
Alpaca fiber is very delicate, so it is worth leaving its cleaning to professional cleaners if we decide to perform this type of treatment on bedroom products made of it. However, because alpaca wool does not contain lanolin, mites do not develop in it, so we can limit its care to a minimum, at home, on our own. What we can do ourselves is to systematically air the alpaca wool duvet and pillow outdoors - especially on hot and dry days with wind and sun. Changing pillowcases regularly is the best way to keep your alpaca bedding fresh.
